When Worlds Collide

My boyfriend, Churches, recently came back to playing Eve a few months ago, after being unsubbed for longer than I've been playing. I'll admit, it was mostly my fault: I dragged him to Utrecht to meet Phelaen, Creesch and Dark Sinister from my first corp, then met with Randgris from The Bastards in Amsterdam. I guess the hours spent geeking out lit the fires again, because he resubbed and hopped back into his mission-running ships.

I've even started to get my darling career carebear considering pvp. He's started thinking about fighting rather than running if he gets caught in lowsec, and he recently took a chance and blew up a Retriever which was afk-piloting around. Bless, the guy even hate-mailed him, til Chu asked why he was afk in lowsec and the other guy admitted that, okay, it was dumb, he wasn't thinking, and he'd have done the same if their roles had been reversed.

*sniffles* I'm so proud of him ^_^

At any rate, he has a great way of looking at the world. We had lunch today, and in amongst the idle chat as we sat in the sun in the park behind his office, Chu had an interesting thought about the perspective in Eve:

'There's all these people toiling away on planets to make ends meet, and they know that, way above them in space, there are these capsuleers who are fabulously rich and fly ships that can blow up moons. They seem so heroic and powerful to all those people stuck on the planets, and everyone wants to be those capsuleers, it's something to really aspire to.

'And then you look at the conversation between two of these massively powerful pilots and they're saying:
'You're gay!'
'No, you're gay!'
'Aw, yer mum!'...

I laughed so hard, because it is so true.

Encounter with the Shadow of Death

I've been spending some time back and forth between Evati and Molden Heath, doing some quiet roaming to get used to the area and figure out where I really should not shoot people lest I get blobbed by the locals. It's an odd area, a different dynamic from what I'm accustomed to, though most of that may be that all of my work beforehand has been based from a system where my associates at the time held supremacy.

I was chilling out in the bar in the station I'd decided to base from in Egbinger, curled up in a chair with a glass of hot spiced apple brandy, still plugged into the local network and arranging to get gear shipped to both Egbinger and Evati when my personal comms pinged for a private convo.

A scan of Local and found not only the pilot but three of his mates in the system. Curious, I accepted the convo, and he left it as quickly as it opened.

Ah-ha. Gotcha.

Some people don't seem to have mastered the art of checking a pilot's info without opening a conversation. I wasn't going to let this guy, one Eon Drake of German Arnima Corp, get away so easily, and decided to poke a little.

Eve Life Meets Real Life, Round Two

One of the guys my boyfriend and I run around City of Villains with added us as friends on Facebook earlier this evening. When I went to confirm, somebody else had added me, some total stranger.

He'd left a message, saying he was an Eve player, himself, living in Scotland as well, and that I could drop him a message if I ever felt like flying together.

My first reaction was a fiendish hurrhurrhurr laugh... but since there's nothing I've left visible to strangers on Facebook that indicates I'm an unrepentant rogue (apart from a little comment of 'Flyin' Hellcat, rawr!'), I added him back and responded that if he didn't mind losing sec, he'd be more than welcome to join us in lowsec....

...On the other hand, since I was the only one with 'WANTED' plastered over half my character portrait in big red letters, I can't have been easy to miss, either =P

The kind of stuff they would arrest people for in the Real World

Earlier today, someone attempted to invite me to a fleet whilst I was afk. I couldn't place the name, but I knew I'd seen the corp around somewhere in the last week or so. I asked around, but nobody knew.

I should have checked our killboards.

Yes, that would indeed be the second hate-convo (not hate-mail, mind you; nobody's ever sent me hate-mail) I have ever received. It is also the first ingame death-threat I've ever been issued.

I feel like I've passed some sort of benchmark test of Eve Online bastardry. He lost an Omen that night for sitting out in a belt in lowsec with known pirates at large in the system. Now he states a desire to avenge his own idiocy, and I sat there and laughed my arse off for ten minutes.

Scyrus, m' dear, in all sincerity, I wish you the best of luck. Come visit Decon when you feel up to it. You have all the time in the world: your killrights are only valid for a limited time, but I'm an outlaw. Just make certain you ask for 1v1 before jumping in, or you'll lose that shiny battleship before you get your chance for revenge.

I really can't put these in the corp forums. My CEO, bless him, wants a policy of No chatting with anyone outside the corp, EVER!, but we all know that's just not possible, and let ourselves slip a little when he's not around. Mind, it's a good policy to have, and we do keep to it 95% of the time; there are just moments where you can't remain silent.
